The problem

Nobody should need a spreadsheet to check their own wages.

If you work nights, weekends and bank holidays, your hourly rate is never just your hourly rate. A shift that starts Friday evening and ends Saturday morning is paid at two different rates — and the split happens at midnight, while you're busy. Most people give up and trust the payslip. Nightband does the arithmetic instead.

Handles midnight properly

A 19:30–08:00 night rolls across midnight, and if it's a Saturday it rolls into Sunday rates too. Nightband works the shift out minute by minute rather than guessing from the start date.

The bit that matters

Most short payments are one shift paid at the wrong rate.

It's rarely dramatic. A Sunday gets paid flat, a night band gets missed, a bank holiday isn't flagged. On its own it's £60. Over a year it's a fortnight's wages. Nightband gives you the number and the date — the two things you need to raise it.

Nightband shows you what your own logged shifts add up to. It doesn't have access to your employer's payroll and can't tell you what you're contractually owed — that conversation is still yours to have.

Your shifts stay on your phone. All of them.

Nightband has no servers, no accounts and no cloud. There is nowhere for your data to go, because there is nothing to send it to. Uninstall the app and every shift you logged is gone with it.

No email, no password, no phone number. Open the app and start logging. There is no user record anywhere because there is no "anywhere".

Ads, honestly

The one exception

Nightband is free because it shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob uses a device advertising ID — it never sees your shifts, pay or employer. Details in the privacy policy below.

Before you download.

Does Nightband know my actual contract?

No, and it never claims to. Nightband ships with a rule pack based on published NHS Agenda for Change unsocial hours arrangements, which is a sensible starting point for most ward staff. Your own contract, trust, bank arrangement or local agreement may differ.

Every band is editable on every shift. Treat the figures as your own working-out, not as a statement of what you are owed.

Is it really free?

Yes. Nightband is free to download and use, funded by ads. There is no paid tier, no trial that expires and no feature held back behind a subscription.

Where do the ads appear?

A small banner on the home and rota screens, and a full-screen ad occasionally after you've finished saving a shift. Exports are gated behind an optional watch-an-ad prompt.

There are never ads while you're entering a shift, and none at all for your first few sessions.

Can I move my data to a new phone?

Yes. Settings → Backup exports everything as a single file you can save to Drive, email to yourself, or keep anywhere you like. Restore it on the new device. The file is yours — Nightband never uploads it anywhere.

Does it work for non-NHS shift work?

It can. The night, Saturday and Sunday bands are all editable, so hospitality, retail, security, care and logistics workers can set their own uplifts. The first release is tuned for UK healthcare because that's where the rules are most fiddly.

Is my employer able to see any of this?

No. Nothing leaves your device unless you deliberately export a file and send it somewhere yourself. Nightband has no employer-facing side and no organisation accounts.

iPhone?

Not yet. Android first. If enough people ask, iOS follows.
